I
would like to start by introducing my self to you. My name is David Ostrowski,
and I am candidate for Ypsilanti Township Clerk, in the August 5th primary election.
I
am a member of Transfiguration Catholic Church, a past member and chairman of the parish council. I am a college graduate of Washtenaw Community College
and I have TWO Associate Degrees: the first in Public Administration; the second
in Quality Control Management.
I
was previously employed by Motor Wheel Corporation for 30 years, until they closed the plant in 1997. I have been employed at the Ford Motor Company (Rawsonville Plant) for the last 10 years as a Gage and
Layout Inspector in the skilled trades department.
I
have been an active U.A.W. member for the past 40 years: 30 years with Local
782 and 10 years with Local 898. I have held a variety of elected positions in
Local 782, having served as vice president for six years, financial secretary treasurer for three years and as plant chairman
for three years. I am presently on the Skilled Trades Advisory Committee at Local
898.
My
community involvement began with being a founding member of the Grove Road Home Owner's Association, which was created to
fight the widening of a two lane residential road to a high volume four-lane highway.
The association is still active to this day. The latest encounter was
with the Washtenaw County Road Commission to replace the traffic light that was removed at the intersection of Jay Street and Grove
Road which, unfortunately was unsuccessful.
I
got started in Ypsilanti Township Government when I was appointed to the Zoning Board of Appeals. I have served 3 elected terms of four years each as an Ypsilanti Township Trustee. I have also served on various township commissions including: 6 years on the Zoning Board of Appeals, four
years on the Liquor Control Committee, four years on the Election Board, one year on the Planning Commission, two years as
Chairman of the Ypsilanti Township Solid Waste Management Committee and Chairman of the Police Services Review Committee. I also served as the Board Liaison to the Huron Utilities Authority and the Water
Conservation Advisory Commission.
In
those 12 years as a Township Board member, I would like to say that I am proud of our accomplishments such as the construction
of Clark East Towers for our senior citizens, the Marriott Hotel/Eastern Michigan University Educational Conference Center
and the Eagle Crest Golf Course, Washtenaw Business Park, the construction of new businesses as the Bosal International North
America complex, CVS Drug Store, Chase Bank, Fifth Third Bank, Buffalo Wild Wings Restaurant and a construction of a new park,
North Hydro park, the road improvement projects on the North side of Tyler Road, and also road improvement projects on the
South side of Tyler Road at a combined cost of $454,000.00 dollars. The adoption and implementation of the Residential Rental
Housing Inspection Ordinance. There are many, many more accomplishments I could list but I'll stop here. The point that I am trying to make is the reason why I have decide to run for Ypsilanti Township Clerk,
"I believe serving in a fulltime capacity would allow me to better serve the residents of the community and would also allow
me to utilize my education, knowledge and experience to best serve the residents of Ypsilanti
Township."
